It is no longer important to only understand what happened historically but to be able to understand what is currently happening and what may happen next. In this session, we will discuss how in this new age of data-driven cultures, Finance departments are increasingly taking a leadership role navigating these difficult waters and using data analytics in order to keep an organization on course.
Jennifer Battista, CPA,CA CISA PMP – VP, Data Strategy at Shaw Communications
For the past 20 years, Jennifer has used her finance, accounting and project management background to bring data into the hands of executives to drive strategic, informed decision-making. As the VP of Data Strategy at Shaw Communications, she is tasked with creating a tech-forward, innovative internal culture. Jennifer’s high-functioning team works with employees across the company to develop customized data and business intelligence solutions to reimagine how we work, drive efficiency and anticipate customer needs. Outside work, Jennifer is an avid boot camp enthusiast and holds the Treasurer position for her daughter’s swim team—which represented Alberta at the 2019 Canada Winter Games.
Matt Harmsworth – Associate Partner, EY
Matt Harmsworth is Associate Partner and leader of EY Canada’s Financial Accounting Advisory Services Performance Improvement & Innovation practice for the Energy sector. He is Bachelor of Accounting and Finance; member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. With 10+ years of management consulting experience supporting finance and operations leaders through their people, process and technology transformations, he leads teams to assess, define and implement innovative finance operating models, processes and systems to meet the increasing demand to provide greater transparency and insight, in less time and with fewer resources. He has extensive experience working with national and international Power and Utilities, Oil and Gas and Mining organizations across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and the Asia Pacific.
Chris Sorensen – Founder and President of Iteration Insights
Chris Sorensen CPA, CGA is the founder and President of Iteration Insights, a Calgary based analytics firm. For his entire career, he has straddled the line between the Business and Technology. Chris has a strong background in cost accounting and budgeting/forecasting which has led to his obsession with data and analytics at the individual and enterprise levels. He is most passionate about coaching, building analytic teams and delivering analytic-based solutions for their many clients.
